Turbo Trainer Jargon Explained...... 'Direct Drive' - This is a trainer in which a cassette is fitted to the trainer so that you simply remove your rear wheel completely and drop your bike on to the fitted cassette. They tend to be quieter, smoother and a more natural ride feel but also the most expensive. 'Smart Trainer' - These units are able to connect directly with your preferred device such as computer, tablet, phone or bike computer and will provide instant data. Depending on the platform you use (Zwift, Training Peaks, Sufferfest, etc) the trainer will also automatically adjust resistances as you cycle through a virtual world. 'Zwift' - Probably the most popular app which has virtual worlds, races and more to explore. Any smart trainer can work on Zwift. A monthly subscription is required.
